Breastfeeding Support Centre

At Sunway Medical Centre Velocity, we are committed to nurturing both mother and baby with gentle, attentive care after childbirth. As part of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), our postnatal support prioritises exclusive breastfeeding, rooming-in, and mother-baby bonding.

BFHI is a global effort led by WHO and UNICEF to support breastfeeding through evidence-based practices and mother-friendly policies — all of which are practised in our hospital to ensure a strong start for every newborn.

Malaysia Breastfeeding Policy

In Malaysia, all mothers are encouraged to breastfeed their babies exclusively from birth until six months of age (meaning six completed months or 180 days). Breastfeeding is recommended to continue until the child reaches two years old. Complementary foods should only be introduced after the baby completes six months. For babies aged 0–6 months, it is advised to give breast milk only, without any additional water, supplements, or complementary or weaning diets.

Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI)

What is BFHI?

The BFHI ensures hospitals offer optimal care for infant feeding and mother-baby bonding. It encourages skin-to-skin contact, early initiation of breastfeeding, and minimises formula supplementation. SMCV is proud to be part of this initiative — a reflection of our commitment to both baby and mother’s well-being.
